How You'll Create Possibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitors and adjusts waste treatment system using Set Cim to maintain water quality standards as outlined in the permit issued by the City of LaFayette.
  • Performs and interprets the results of lab tests using an Isotemp oven, desiccator, Spectrophotometer, analytical balance, vacuum pump, permit standards, and various manuals to ensure quality of water and troubleshoot problems.
  • Performs minor, routine equipment maintenance such as changing the oil, hydraulic fluid, filter cloths, and feed lines using basic tools (e.g., screwdriver, wrench, etc.) to ensure proper, effective functioning of machinery.
  • Maintains and tracks inventory of waste storage areas by keeping containers sorted and properly labeled to ensure waste materials are disposed of correctly.
  • Performs weekly storage area audits as required by RCRA.
  • Manages empty drum disposal.
  • Assists with plant chemical sweeps.
    RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
    • Adjusts and monitors chemical feed rates by taking "grab samples" and analyzing with a pH meter and Set Cim to ensure compliance with pH standards set by the City of LaFayette permit.
    • Changes chemical totes when empty
    • Runs the hydraulic press when needed
    • Works on the polymer mixers when needed
    • Inspects pipes, valves, airlines, pumps, tanks and mixers during shift
    • Pumps the solids from the clarifier into the sludge holding tank as needed
    • Contacts BTLs & BTMs when there is a problem, or something needs to be changed in the system
    • Cleans and calibrates probes at the neutralization tank and the process effluent
    • Keeps a log of all lab test results both manually and, on the computer,
    • Rebuilds pumps when needed
    • Order chemicals and spare parts for the machinery

      EDUCATION & TRAINING:

      Required:

      High school diploma or G.E.D.; Forklift Certification

      Annually:

      Hazardous Waste Training, Hazardous Materials Transportation (DOT) Training; Hazardous Communications Training; LOTO Training; Confined Spaces Training; PPE Training

      Preferred:

      EXPERIENCE:

      SKILLS/ABILITIES: Must possess the ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical functions at the high school level. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, push, pull, and climb. The employee will occasionally be required to lift an average of 25 pounds.

      The employee must be able or able to learn how to change oil, hydraulic fluid, filter clothes, and feed lines as well as how to rebuild pumps. Ability to use a computer to access Set Cim operating program and type various reports using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Minitab.

      EQUIPMENT/JOB TOOLS: Ability to use Isotemp oven, desiccator, Spectrophotometer, analytical balance, vacuum pump, pH meter, and various basic tools. Ability to operate a forklift, hydraulic press, and soldering equipment.

      WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee is exposed to various weather elements because most of the equipment is located outside. The employee is subject to exposure to chemicals such as sulfuric acid and caustic soda used to regulate the wastewater treatment system.
