Job Description:

The Chattanooga Zoo is looking for an exceptional Maintenance/Facilities Technician to add to the Facilities Department. The ideal candidate for this position will be someone who excels at problem solving, has experience working with multiple tools in different settings, and someone who works well both independently and within a team. Normal duties will include day to day building and exhibit maintenance, troubleshooting maintenance issues, and fulfilling work orders. Candidate must be able to work well with others and interact with the public on a frequent basis. Facilities DutiesPaintingRoutine maintenance of zoo buildings and exhibitsChange HVAC filtersAssist in the construction of artificial rock and structuresAssist with general carpentry Assess and creatively solve problems related to maintenance of zoo grounds and buildings. Assist with plumbing repairs Address zoo work orders in a timely mannerAssist in the creation of new exhibits at the zooOther DutiesAssist in zoo pest control (i.e. replace traps as needed)Interact with zoo guests to answer questions, guide guests, or enforce zoo policiesAssist in the preparation and operation of special events after normal zoo hours as neededOther duties as assignedPreferred ExperienceBasic carpentry techniques Cut, shape, fit or join wood or other construction materialsMeasure and mark reference points or cutting lines on work piecesBuild and repair wooden framework or structuresHand and power tools (including woodworking tools)Plumbing techniques Assemble and install pipe sections, fittings, or plumbing fixturesThe candidate must be able to lift, bend, and twist 50 lbs. regularly.
