This section is responsible for protecting consumers from being shorted at gasoline pumps or purchasing bad gas at stations located throughout GA. This division is also responsible for checking and calibrating meters at airports, military bases and oil companies.This also test heavy and small scales such as those located at truck stops, scrap yards and cattle sales as well as pawn shops and processing plants. The small scales inspectors also do package checking such as mulch.THIS POSITION IS ASSIGNED TO ALL NORTH GA. COUNTIES:CherokeeCobbFultonGordonWhitfieldDaltonUnder supervision, learns to perform inspections and investigations in the fuel & measures division to ensure compliance with established state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.* Test and calibrate fuel and oil meters at truck stops, airports, military bases, and oil co.* Learns to enforce laws, rules, and regulations pertaining handbook 44 and the state fuel and measures guide.* Learns to inspect and investigate for compliance with handbook 44 and the state fuel and measures guide. Learns to plan, organize, and manage activities of assigned areas.* Learns to fill out reports and other paperwork on computer laptop.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:* Inspects and investigates fuel facilities* Test and calibrate fuel and oil meters* Test truck stop hi-speed pumps* Maintains a working knowledge of current policies, laws, regulations and guidance documents;* Attends training sessions and meetings* Prepares and completes agency and state forms as required;* Other duties as assigned.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Preference will be given to applicants, who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas:* 2-years of experience in fuel distribution or airport maintenance (fueling planes)* Completion of a bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology, or a closely related field.NOTE: The Georgia Department of Agriculture conducts background checks on all final candidates.
