Open Date:05/21/2021 Classification Title:Custodian Division:Treasurer Department:Facilities Management - Building Services FLSA Status:Non-Exempt Hourly Career/Pay Band:NE 3 Work Schedule:Full Year Full Time vs Part Time:Full Time Appointment:Regular Primary Function:Cleans and cares for assigned buildings, facilities and their premises. Supports the mission of the University, including receptivity to new initiatives as may be set forth by the Office of Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability. Typical Duties & Responsibilities: Cleans restroom facilities and replenishes supplies. Sweeps, dust mops, wet mops, vacuums, strips and waxes floors on a regular basis. Removes trash and recyclable materials. Washes walls, windows, and sills on a regular basis. Dusts and cleans offices. Reports building security problems, damaged structures or equipment, and other maintenance problems to supervisor or lead worker. Cleans grounds adjacent to assigned building(s). Operates various mechanical, electrical, and battery operated machines to aid in performing the above tasks and duties. Judgment Required:Prescribed, established procedures are primarily used to perform the essential functions of this position. Budgetary Responsibility:None Machines & Equipment Used:Vacuum cleaner (upright and hand held), wet vac, shampooer, carpet extractor, ladders and related equipment Education:High School Diploma or GED equivalent Experience:Six months of experience in janitorial or related custodial work Job Related Skills:Ability to follow instructions, both verbal and written Able to lift up to 50 pounds Student Contact:Incidental in the course of work Internal:Incidental in the course of work External:Incidental in the course of work Supervision Received:This position receives direct supervision in which assignments and instructions are clearly and regularly explained. Completed assignments are routinely reviewed by supervisor for correctness. Working Environment:Various buildings throughout campus Typical shift is 5:00am to 1:30pm shift. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, Must be able to walk for extended periods of time, Must be able to climb (many stairs, ladders), Must be able to crawl and or kneel, Must be able to push and/or pull objects, Must be able to use feet for repetitive tasks, Must be able to use hands for repetitive tasks, Must be able to carry between 21-50 pounds (Medium work) Physical Requirements:Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, Must be able to walk for extended periods of time, Must be able to climb (many stairs, ladders), Must be able to crawl and or kneel, Must be able to push and/or pull objects, Must be able to use feet for repetitive tasks, Must be able to use hands for repetitive tasks, Must be able to carry between 21-50 pounds (Medium work) Any additional requirements specific to this position:Typical shift is 5:00am to 1:30pm shift.
