Day Hours per Shift: 0645 - 1715 (4 days per week, primarily
Mon-Fri, with potential for weekends) Experience: Moderate to high
acuity surgical cases preferred License: Certified Surgical
Technologist required; National certification required upon hire
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Must-Have:
Ability to read, write, and speak the English language; strong
customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate
with healthcare providers; ability to manage multiple priorities;
critical thinking skills; knowledge of surgical procedures
Description: The Surgical Technologist Certified functions under
the direction of the registered professional nurse. They assist the
healthcare team in providing safe, age-appropriate, and culturally
aware patient care. They possess the knowledge, skill, and ability
to perform duties within the context of moderate to high acuity
surgical cases. They anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other
members of the healthcare team. They demonstrate an acquisition of
additional surgical skills for progressively more difficult cases.
They prepare the operative suite and surgical field to ensure a
safe patient care environment. They maintain the sterile field and
address other patient safety concerns. Duties include gathering
required instruments and supplies. They serve as a surgical
assistant as needed. They assist with inventory, ordering, and
stocking required supplies. They ensure compliance with
accreditation standards. Call or late coverage may be required
related to the facility. Responsibilities include checking supplies
and equipment for surgical procedures. They assist with room set-up
and opening sterile supplies. They set up sterile tables with
instruments and supplies accurately and aseptically. They perform
appropriate surgical counts with the circulator. They participate
in procedure pause/time-out. They scrub, gown, and glove; they gown
and glove the surgeon and assistants. They assist in draping the
sterile field. During procedures, they pass instruments to the
surgeon while maintaining an organized back table. They prepare
sterile dressings and participate in post-procedure pauses. They
clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization. They
apply principles of asepsis to ensure the prevention of infection
and safety of patients. They prepare case carts according to
procedures and preference cards. They observe patients' conditions
and report any significant changes to medical staff. They
proactively plan for the next steps in procedures. They prepare
operating room areas for receiving patients, which includes
stocking and cleaning. They ensure financial stewardship related to
supplies and equipment. They provide culturally aware and
age-appropriate patient-centered care. They conduct bedside shift
reports and practice using current clinical standards. They uphold
organizational policies and clinical competencies. They demonstrate
teamwork and collaboration and promote a positive work environment.
They assist other members of the team with cleaning and preparing
the room for the next patient. They transport patients as needed
and provide comfort and safety measures. They participate in
performance improvement initiatives and seek process enhancement
opportunities. They complete required competencies and education to
maintain skills. They provide training for students and new hires.
They support licensed staff as needed and maintain surgical area
organization. They assume responsibility for other duties as
assigned.
