Job Title: Cardiovascular OR Specialty Nurse Profession: RN Registered / Licensed Specialty: Inpatient Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: At least a year of Cardiovascular OR experience License: RN- Multi-state Compact Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - Preferred Must-Have: - Thorough knowledge of new trends and techniques in Cardiovascular surgery - Ability to multi-task using critical thinking skills - Capable of prioritizing appropriate patient care in emergency situations - Effective communication skills in verbal and written English - Excellent organizational skills Description: This position functions under the direction of the Department Manager and Clinical Coordinator. The Cardiovascular OR Specialty Nurse is responsible for implementing the nursing process based on expanded knowledge and experience. This nurse delivers patient care that is age-appropriate and addresses the biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs of the patient and family or support system. The role involves providing patient care in complex, urgent, emergent, and life-saving situations. The nurse coordinates surgical suite activities and prioritizes and directs the surgical team in emergent situations. Participation in staff development and professional self-development is essential. This nurse serves as a role model and team leader, assisting others in patient care and organizational support. The position requires functioning as a circulator or surgical tech during peak surgery hours. Weekday, weekend, and holiday call are required. Some charge nurse responsibilities may be required. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Coordinates delivery of perioperative patient care. Maintains a high level of patient safety. Collaborates with healthcare team members in planning patient care. Maintains CPR certification. Assumes responsibility for other duties as assigned. Provides age-appropriate patient care. Promotes team spirit and a positive work environment. Creates a supportive environment for students and staff. Acts as a professional role model. Serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, families, and staff. Supports fiscal accountability for human and material resources. Supports performance improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care. Documents patient care legibly, accurately, and in accordance with guidelines. Promotes shared governance and evidence-based practice. Functions independently within a broad range of surgical specialties. Maintains 12 contact hours per year. Manages assigned surgical specialty for flow and cost containment. Strives to embody the organization's standards in daily work activity. Peer evaluation may be required. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all relevant policies, standards of work, and codes of conduct.
