Position Summary The Registered Nurse Operating Room (RN-OR) is
responsible for delivering safe, effective, and high-quality
patient- and family-centered care in the Operating Room. This
position supports surgical services through clinical expertise,
sound nursing judgment, and collaboration with the surgical team to
ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RN-OR upholds team goals and
organizational values by demonstrating excellence, accountability,
and a commitment to quality service. Essential Job FunctionsAssist
in the coordination and daily operations of the operating room in
accordance with federal, state, accreditation, and facility
guidelines.Provide direct patient care during surgical procedures
by anticipating and responding to the needs of the surgical
team.Maintain a high standard of safety by implementing procedures
to prevent injury, including site verification, specimen handling,
and prevention of retained surgical items.Administer medications
and monitor patient status during perioperative phases.Ensure
proper setup of equipment, instrumentation, and supplies based on
patient needs and surgeon preference cards.Accurately and
thoroughly document all aspects of nursing care in a timely and
legible manner.Participate in quality assurance, performance
improvement initiatives, and the performance appraisal
process.Maintain required clinical competencies and complete all
assigned compliance training.Delegate appropriate tasks based on
the Nurse Practice Act and facility job descriptions.Collaborate
with other departments and serve as a patient advocate, protecting
patient rights, dignity, and privacy.Support orientation and
training of new employees and serve as a role model for
staff.Actively engage in problem-solving and conflict resolution to
foster a collaborative team environment.Accept flexible scheduling
and additional responsibilities as needed to meet patient care
needs.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesEffective verbal and written
communication skills.Strong organizational abilities and attention
to detail.Demonstrates a positive, professional, and courteous
demeanor.Proficiency in circulating a variety of surgical
cases.Knowledge of the perioperative role of a nurse and sterile
technique.Skilled in the safe operation of OR equipment including
autoclaves, sterilizers, and patient monitors.Competence in IV
therapy preferred.Working knowledge of electronic medical records
and basic office software.Ability to prioritize tasks, work under
pressure, and adapt to change.Physical ability to perform job
functions including lifting, standing, reaching, stooping, and
kneeling.Ability to speak, read, and write English
fluently.Committed to ongoing professional development and
continuing education.Education and Experience RequirementsRequired:
Current Registered Nurse license in the state of
Tennessee.Preferred: Minimum of two (2) years of operating room
nursing experience.Required: Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
certification.Preferred: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
certification.Must be able to provide documentation of identity and
legal authorization to work in the United States.OWNERSHIP
