Facilities In a word, Baylor's campus is stunning. Great care has been applied over the years to maintain and preserve 670 acres of land and turn-of-the century buildings that overlook the Tennessee River gorge. Notable features include: A state-of-the-art science and technology building A recently renovated library A fine arts complex featuring a theatre, dance studios, scene and costume shops, and rehearsal rooms; studio spaces for drawing, printmaking, pottery, sculpture, photography, computer graphics and painting; and a music building for choir, band, and orchestra rehearsals A working solar farm and an organic garden Green spaces, trails, and picnic areas A chapel for weekly student assemblies, special events, and alumni weddings Six dorms, including the areas first LEED-certified residence hall Baylors athletic facilities include: An Olympic-sized pool A new training and fitness center for elite athletes A football stadium with an artificial turf and a seven-lane track Three baseball fields A new soccer complex, including artificial and natural turf fields. A cross-country course winding through the woods and along the river 20+ indoor and outdoor tennis courts A short-game golf practice center A basketball arena and three additional basketball courts that convert to volleyball and fencing areas A field house with weight rooms, a cardio room, a dance studio, a running track, and equipment, training, and film rooms The Tennessee River is more than a view. In collaboration with the Tennessee River Gorge Trust, Baylor students are becoming stewards of Williams Island a 400-acre wilderness within easy rowing distance. The island is already the site for archaeology and ornithology projects as well as recreational pursuits such as camping and fishing. Baylor School also hosts an aquatic summer camp in partnership with the Tennessee Aquarium, funded by the National Science Foundation. Summer Programs Baylor summer camps have provided summer fun and adventure for over 70 years. Baylor currently offers over 40 day and overnight camp programs throughout the summer. The categories of programs are outlined below. _Raider Days_ Raider Days is Baylors traditional day camp with a wide variety of program offerings for grades K-6. The camp offers 5 one week sessions and utilizes the many facilities across Baylors campus. _Walkabout Outdoor Programs_ Day and overnight outdoor adventure programs including hiking, canoeing, climbing, and caving. Serving children in grades 3-9, this program is built on the strengths of Baylors school year Walkabout program that introduces all students to outdoor education experiences. _Elite Sports Camps_ Baylor is home to the third best high school athletic program in the country according to MaxPreps. The summer sports camps offer competitive opportunities for young athletes to develop their sports skills. Baylors camps are directed by their varsity coaches with highly individualized instruction, helping athletes to develop across every level to increase both confidence and ability. _Enrichment Camps_ From coding to creative arts, Baylors enrichment camps provide children the opportunity to try a wide variety of new experiences. Offerings include performing and visual arts, business, creative writing, dance, and woodworking. _Leadership Baylor_ Modeled after the Baylor School mission to foster in its students both the ability and the desire to make a positive difference in the world, Leadership Baylor is a week-long overnight camp for rising 7th and 8th graders who are motivated to become tomorrow's leaders. Campers will discover their individual strengths and weaknesses, while learning strategies and skills for servant leadership, team building, public speaking, and success in non-profit or for-profit businesses. Facility Rentals Baylor leverages the value of its exceptional campus through facility rentals. The school sees this as a potential growth area through enhanced partnerships and dedicated efforts to increase facility rentals throughout the year. Position Description: Director of Summer and Auxiliary Programs Summary Description Reporting to the VP of Finance and Operations, the Director of Summer and Auxiliary Programs is responsible for strategic planning, operations, market development, program design, promotion, budgeting, monitoring, and evaluation of all Baylor Summer and Auxiliary Programs including summer sports camps, enrichment programs, day and overnight camps, and the rental of Baylor facilities. Essential Functions and Key Objectives Strategic Program Development _Build vibrant programs that achieve desired admissions goals, annual and long-term net revenue targets, and support the schools mission and program._ Assess, enhance, and where appropriate, expand summer and auxiliary program offerings aligned with the Baylors mission to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of current and prospective participants Collaborate with school leadership, administration, and faculty to ensure all summer and auxiliary programs align with the schools mission and educational philosophy Annually seek and analyze input from campers/students, families, and staff regarding the quality of their program experience Explore opportunities for leveraging the intellectual and physical assets of the school Seek to identify partnerships that may enhance program potential Program Management _Ensure program participants have a safe and positive experience such that they return and/or recommend our programs to others._ Create and oversee the curriculum for the Summer Programs, which include academic, athletic, extracurricular, and other activities that support Baylors mission Provide an appropriately safe, caring, and enriching environment for all participants Establish routines, provide positive guidance, and enforce policies and procedures, including disciplinary policies, in accordance with Baylors stated values Provide ongoing supervision and support of all faculty and staff of the summer and auxiliary programs Develop and oversee all safety and health protocols in coordination with school risk management plan Manage all rentals of school facilities in coordination with School calendar and facility availability Financial Management _Ensure that the Summer and Auxiliary Programs financial performance meets or exceeds budgeted expectations._ Prepare annual budget covering all aspects of program expenses and revenues to ensure profitability Monitor revenues and expenses in accordance with budgetary restrictions for bottom line performance across all programs Work with individual coaches and teachers to ensure profitability of their programs Establish appropriate compensation for all auxiliary program employees in coordination with the VP of Finance and Operations Marketing and Communications _Effectively promote the programs so as to achieve the enrollment and revenue targets._ In coordination with the Communications and Marketing department, develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy for all summer and auxiliary programs Ensure that summer and auxiliary programs have an effective and accurate web presence including the website and social media Plan and coordinate the publishing and advertising of program catalogues, brochures, and schedules Manage all public relations and marketing initiatives including open houses, mailers, brochures, camp fairs, and ad placement to promote and communicate the programs to prospective and enrolled participants Write and distribute regular communications among summer and auxiliary program constituencies that effectively provide updated information and a sense of community Recruitment _Ensure that summer and auxiliary programs serve as a recruiting tool for Baylor School admissions._ Serve as primary recruiter to all programs, particularly boarding camps, and manage the activities of others charged with recruitment Work closely with admission department to identify and follow-up with students who have strong potential to convert to Baylor boarding prospects Assist admission department in recruiting parents and alumni to host in-home events to promote summer programs and Baylor enrollment As appropriate, accompany admission counselors and/or alumni representatives to regional events and receptions As appropriate, participate in admission office marketing events, including prospective parent presentations, boarding open houses and others Administration and Operations _Ensure that the administration of the programs is efficient and effective._ Coordinate and organize registration for summer and auxiliary programs (i.e. rosters, processing of forms and confirmation letters, parent communication, etc.) Maintain accurate and comprehensive summer and auxiliary program database Prepare reports for and communicate with School leadership to ensure awareness of summer and auxiliary program performance Execute and oversee all contracts related to program Ensure that summer and auxiliary programs are in compliance with all applicable regulations of licensing and governing entities Human Resources _Hire and manage to build a stable, effective, and customer-focused team._ Recruit, hire, and train all summer and auxiliary program employees Ensure that all necessary and required employment forms, including background checks, are completed and on file Conduct annual performance evaluation of all auxiliary programs coaches, teachers, and staff Coordinate and communicate payroll as needed with the Business Office Other Duties Participate in special assignments and projects as needed to improve school operations (i.e. buildings and grounds, safety, accreditation, committees, etc.) Maintain a commitment to student and employee diversity Perform other duties as assigned by the VP of Finance and Operations Requirements Desired Qualifications Successful candidates will have the energy and ambition to develop Baylors Auxiliary Programs to the highest degree of educational excellence. They will be organized, attentive to detail, and inspired by authentic interest in the experience of the children in the programs.
