Job Description:
Chemical/ Polymer EngineerDuties and Requirements of the
Job:middot; Applies and improves processes such as material and
material processing validation, design validation and 7-step
problem solving.middot; Utilizes the tools and techniques for
material characterization, material testing, non-destructive
testing, mechanical and physical properties measurement, simulation
and statistical data analysis which are required to enable higher
quality decision making.middot; Leads investigation of material and
material processing problems, understands causal mechanisms,
recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and
documents results.middot; Run trials with new materials, processes,
and Design of Experiments.middot; Scale up new extruded products,
with involvement in tooling, material selection and material
development.middot; Optimize polymer formulations to better suit
requirements of established and new extruded products.middot;
Optimizing the extrusion process from design to product launch and
continual improvementmiddot; Work with the plant team to document
process requirements and parameters to assure equipment and work
cell team are capable of commercial production.middot;
Implementation of SOP's (standard operating procedures) Includes
standardized work, workplace organization, quality, and process
specifications.middot; Coordinate continuous improvement and
production process efforts.middot; Coordinate all applicable
product testing verification and ongoing validation to meet product
specifications as well as comply with applicable local and
governmental regulations.middot; Complete time studies to identify
opportunities for efficiency improvements.middot; Makes decisions
in the areas of material and material processing selection and
development, qualification, and inspection that impact product
quality, reliability, durability, and capability.Training,
Knowledge and Experience (May Be Required or Preferred, at the
discretion of the hiring team)middot; BS Chemical Engineering, BS
Polymer Science, BS Chemistry, BS Plastics Engineering, or
similar.middot; 2 years of functional and HANDS-ON process
engineering experience within polymer extrusion processes such as
sheet, cast film, profile, pipe, decking, fence.middot; Experience
setting up SOP's.middot; 2 years of experience modifying polymer
formulations and managing trials.middot; 1 years of experience
testing polymer materials to ensure they meet
specifications.middot; 2 years of experience with Continuous
Improvement tools such as lean manufacturing, Kaizen, Lean 6 Sigma
or GEMBAmiddot; 2 years of functional and HANDS-ON process
engineering experience preferred.middot; Relocation package will be
offered to the successful candidate.Working Conditions:middot;
Occasionally lifts and / or carries up to 50 pounds.middot;
Maneuvers in, around, under and about factory and / or laboratory
equipment on a regular and continuous basis.middot; Some of work
time is spent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, and
bending.middot; Works within a manufacturing, office and laboratory
setting and may be exposed to heat, cold and
fumes/chemicals.middot; May be required to travel to other sites or
customer sites as needed.middot; PPE is to be worn as
