Job Description:
Position Overview The Staff Accountant supports the Controller
and accounting team by assisting with day-to-day general ledger
activities, financial reporting and grant management. This role is
responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting
the monthly close process, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit
accounting standards and grant requirements. The Staff Accountant
works collaboratively with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable,
Payroll, and Billing staff to ensure transactions are properly
recorded and reflected in the general ledger. Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Month-End Close Prepare and post journal entries,
including accruals, allocations, and reclassifications Assist with
month-end and year-end close processes Reconcile general ledger
accounts and investigate discrepancies Financial Reporting Support
Assist with preparation of monthly financial reports and schedules
Support audit preparation and provide requested documentation
Ensure accurate recording of transactions from A/R, A/P, Payroll,
and Billing Grant Management & Compliance Track and Monitor grant
expenditures to ensure compliance with grant agreements and funding
restrictions Maintain detailed grant records, including budgets,
expenditures and supporting documents Assist in preparation of
grants financial reports and reimbursement requests Reconcile
grant-related accounts and ensure proper allocation of expenses
Collaborate with program managers to review grant budgets and
spending activity Ensure compliance and federal, state and private
grant requirements, including allowable cost guidelines Support
grant audits and provide required documentation to auditors and
funders Compliance & Documentation Maintain organized financial
records and supporting documentation Assist with nonprofit, grant,
and Medicaid-related compliance Support internal controls and
adherence to accounting policies Collaboration & Process
Improvement Work collaboratively with other accounting staff to
ensure timely and accurate reporting Identify opportunities for
process improvement and efficiency Provide backup support to other
accounting functions as needed Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in
Accounting, Finance, or a related field 2–4 years of accounting
experience preferred but not required, preferably in a nonprofit or
service-based organization Working knowledge of GAAP and general
ledger accounting Working Knowledge of nonprofit grant management,
including tracking restricted funds, preparing grant financial
reports, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and private
funding requirements Experience with accounting software and
Microsoft Excel, (SAGE preferred, not required) Strong attention to
detail and organizational skills Ability to manage deadlines and
work effectively in a team environment Strong commitment to the
mission of supporting individuals with intellectual and
developmental disabilities
